Warm Hearts, Warmer Winters: Help Himachal’s Underprivileged Brave the Cold

Join Bharat Disaster Relief Foundation in Supporting Homeless affected by Harsh Winter
“In times of disaster, compassion is our greatest strength. Together, we can turn adversity into hope and help rebuild lives.”
As winter blankets Himachal Pradesh, the bitter cold threatens the lives of the elderly, homeless, and underprivileged communities. With temperatures plummeting and access to warmth limited, the Bharat Disaster Relief Foundation (BDRF) is launching a Winter Warm Drive to distribute blankets, warm clothing, and essential supplies. Your support can bring safety and comfort to those in desperate need this winter.
Himachal Pradesh experiences severe winters, with temperatures often dropping below -5°C in some regions. The cold is life-threatening, especially for those without proper shelter or clothing. In December 2022, over 150 deaths were reported among the homeless in Himachal due to extreme cold ([Himachal Disaster Management Authority](https://himachal.gov.in/)). Additionally, pollution exacerbates respiratory problems, making survival even harder for the vulnerable populations. The combination of harsh winter conditions and poor air quality creates a lethal environment for many.
Immediate Relief Needed
– Warm Blankets: To protect families living in temporary shelters and roadside.
– Winter Clothing Kits: Including jackets, gloves, hats, and socks for children, women, and the elderly.
– Protective Masks: To reduce exposure to pollution and safeguard respiratory health.
Your donations can provide immediate relief and save lives by ensuring that the underprivileged have the necessary protection against the cold and polluted air.

Urgent Aid Needed
– Shelter Support: Many flood-affected families are still living in makeshift shelters without adequate warmth.
– Essential Winter Supplies: Daily wage earners and the homeless have no means to afford winter essentials.
– Health Protection:The elderly and children are at high risk of hypothermia and respiratory illnesses due to cold and pollution.
Immediate aid is crucial to address these urgent needs and prevent further loss of lives.
Winter Warm Drive by BDRF
BDRF’s Winter Warm Drive aims to distribute blankets, warm clothing, and essential supplies across Himachal Pradesh’s coldest regions. Our goal is to reach thousands of families in remote villages, flood-affected areas, and urban slums, ensuring no one is left to face the winter alone. Last winter, BDRF successfully distributed over 10,000 blankets and winter kits, and this year, we aim to amplify our efforts to reach even more individuals in need.
BDRF has a proven track record of effective disaster relief and community support. This winter, we are focusing our efforts on:
– Organizing Blanket and Clothing Distribution Drives: Ensuring that every donated blanket and clothing item reaches those in need.
– Setting Up Community Relief Camps: Providing hot meals and essential supplies to the most affected families.
– Raising Awareness: Educating communities about the importance of warmth and protection against pollution and cold.
– Collaborating with Local Organizations: Enhancing our outreach and impact through partnerships with trusted local entities.
With your help, we can extend our reach and make a substantial impact on the lives of Himachal Pradesh’s most vulnerable residents.

UPDATES
Dear donors,
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity. With your support, we’ve received essential grocery items—200 kilos of rice and flour, 1000 litres of refined oil, 100 litres of mustard oil, 70 kilos each of masoor dal and chana dal, 25 kilos of kabuli chana, 50 packets of papad, and 70 kilos of besan. These are critical supplies that will help us feed the 70 differently-abled children in our care.
Every day, these children face more than physical challenges; they also endure the harsh reality of stigma and social isolation. Many of them have been neglected or overlooked simply because they are different. With your help, we can show them that they are valued and loved.
Please continue to stand by us as we fight for these children’s dignity and hope for their future. Together, we are making a real difference.

Dear donors,
Your kindness means the world to us. Caring for the 70+ special children is both a joy and a challenge. There are days I struggle to arrange even the basics, relying on shopkeepers to lend us groceries just to get by. While donations come in during festivals or special occasions, the quieter days are the hardest.
But now, because of your support, we can finally breathe a little easier. Our first delivery of essential items is on its way, and we couldn’t be more grateful. I promise to keep you updated every step of the way.
Thank you for standing with us. Your support brings hope, and that hope keeps us going.
